Chips-A-Hoy & Church

Last week when we headed to church we left the house like we were traveling with a teenager. We had a cup of water, a diaper and little bug. We sit down at church and realized that we had absolutely nothing to entertain her. She found a pack of 100 calorie chips-a-hoy cookies in my bag, but that was about it. We let her munch on cookies to keep her occupied. Five minutes later, sugar rush kicked in. Chocolate high + no toys = a loud little bug in church.

Luckily we go to a church that is a rock concert for the first 20 minutes, so she just rocks out and claps. The music is so loud you don't hear her chattering away. Once the actual sermon starts, then everyone is quiet. Well, everyone but little bug and a few other toddlers whose parents don't want to drop their kid off at the childcare place either.

So daddy and I took turns letting her run around in the lobby with about 20 other kids whose parents had given up trying to keep them quiet. There are TV screens in the lobby so you really don't miss a beat, other than chasing after your kid. Little bug proceeded to walk up to everyone and show them her shoes. She held up her leg and said, "shoe!", then she picked up her dress and yelled "dress". She's already fishing for compliments.

This morning, we were much more prepared and had a ton of toys, books, munchies, and her little magnetic writing pad. She lasted longer than any other service - a whole 40 minutes without getting too chatty. The wheels fell off the bus when she took off her socks and shoes, pulled on my hand and yelled, "walk". So I scooped her up and took little bug, her socks, shoes and Minnie Mouse out into the lobby.

The lobby was packed with chairs set up for the crazy overflow from the main areas. So we sat down, put on her socks & shoes while little bug chattered away. With only 10 minutes left, and 5K of our closest friends about to all converge on the parking deck, we headed out to the parking garage. Chatter, chatter, chatter in the elevator. Then we get to our floor of the parking garage where two police officers were waiting to start directing traffic. They said hi to little bug, and wouldn't you know it, she was completely silent and just stared at them.
